Scottish lawyer Angus Logan welcomes
TUC report on compensation culture
A LEADING Scottish lawyer Angus Logan has welcomed a TUC report
published on Friday (May 20), which shatters the commonly held myth
of a compensation culture in the UK.
Findings of the TUC report included the fact that less than one
in ten people made ill or injured by their work ever receive any
compensation from the state or from their employers.
Angus Logan is director of the Accident Claims & Personal
Injury Damages Centre, a division of Frazer Coogans Solicitors
of Ayr.
Angus Logan said:
“As Scottish Secretary of P.E.O.P.I.L (Pan-European Organisation
of Personal Injury Lawyers) I welcome the TUC Report and Findings.
It bears out my own experience every day in handling claims for
serious industrial accidents and diseases such as asbestosis and
mesothelioma.
“The proposed legislation on corporate manslaughter in
England is welcome if rather late.
“However, when it comes to industrial accidents and diseases,
prevention would be much better than a cure. Most of these industrial
accidents are quite preventable.
“It is often very sad to tell the victim of an industrial
injury that he or she is legally too late to claim compensation
because they did not know that they could claim for their serious
injury.
“The Government should give the Health & Safety Executive
greater funding, resources and “teeth” with which
better to regulate and prevent injuries at work.”
